ACADEMIC CORE

Every Salem Academy student takes rigorous college-preparatory courses in five Academic Core subjects (English, Mathematics, History, Science and Spanish). Salem Academy students graduate informed, articulate, proactive and ready for college. 

 

* Extended English and Mathematics classes for students in early grades. * Peformance-based classes in English and Mathematics at all levels to provide both remediation and challenge.

 

* Spanish, English-language support or academic support classes required.

 

* Honors and Advanced Placement courses offered for high school-aged students.

 

* Standards-based grading to ensure student mastery of content and skills.

 

* Tutoring and homework support available. 

 

RESULTS

* Salem Academy students have outperformed local district students for the past two (2) years on MCAS assessments according to the MA Department of Education Composite Perforance Index (CPI). 

 

* Salem Academy was the only secondary school in Salem to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) standards in all categories and subgroups set by the MA Department of Education in 2007. 

 

* All of Salem Academy's current grade 11 students met MCAS graduation requirements in grade 10.

 

INTERESTING INFORMATION

MCAS Parent Reports will now include growth model data. To help understand the reporting the Massachusetts Department of Education has developed an online tutorial geared specifically towards parents.
