Salem Academy Baseball and Softball Teams Advance to Championships!

The baseball and softball teams were able to get two major semi-final wins to push both teams into the championship games on Wednesday, June 11 at Moakley Park in Boston. This will be the first ever school championship for any boys team at Salem Academy and the second championship game for the girls.

softball teamThe softball team came out ready to go against Foxboro and scored two runs in the first inning on a Tara Deschenes triple and a Sydney Moreno RBI single. After gaining this lead the girls never gave it back and won by a score of 8-4. Tara Deschenes pitched a complete game striking out 6 while also chipping in with 2 doubles, 1 triple and two runs scored. Sydney Moreno and Jenn Gorman contributed 3 hits while Robyn Hendry and Serena Gonzalez helped out with two each.
The girls will play defending champion and undefeated Boston Collegiate.

 

basesoftball teamsThe baseball game went into the playoffs as Salem Acecemy, the #4 seed, took out #1 and undefeated Pioneer Charter School by a score of 10-4. Brian Rodriguez pitched the best game of his career with several college coaches looking on and Sammy Benoit played an outstanding game in center field and led the team offensively. Salem scored 5 in the 3rd and Pioneer scored 2 in the bottom of the 3rd to make it 5-2. Salem then scored 5 more in the 4th to make it 10-2 and held on down the stretch for the 10-4 win. Brian Rodriguez did an outstanding job pitching a complete game while Sammy Benoit chipped in with 4 hits and 3 RBI. It truly was a whole team effort as every single person in the line up reached base at least once.
The boys look to knock off 3 time defending championing Boston Collegiate.
